PROJECT DESCRIPTION

With the planned re-paving of Market Street, the City of San Francisco looked at this as an opportunity to re-imagine San Francisco’s most iconic street. Traversing through a number of distinct districts along its length, Market Street serves as the transit workhorse for moving people in and around the city.  The goal for this project is to envision Market Street as a complete street, a street that serves all users and makes travel safe and enjoyable for pedestrians, bicycles and transit users.  Also, primary in this effort of re-planning Market Street, is an improvement in the quality and type of public realm along its length.  Currently, the street suffers from years of street infrastructure and furniture accrual, and lacks a cohesive vision.  The proposed plan seeks to unify the street and allow for district identities to heighten the experience and affect the public realm in positive ways.
