West Berkeley Study Model

We debuted the West Berkeley Study model at a gathering we hosted with the American Institute of Architects East Bay Chapter and the Berkeley Design Advocates. The model while physical, utilizes artificial intelligence and virtual reality to show and identify the complex layers of the built environment.

Warm Water Cove

Cal Poly Humboldt Engineering & Technology Building

Beyond excited to share that we have been awarded the Engineering and Technology Building and Student Housing Project at Cal Poly Humboldt. We are teamed with AC Martin and Swinerton on this transformational project for the campus, the $25M project will be the first project constructed since the transformation to a Cal Poly School.

Very excited to get started on this project! We have a great team of collaborators and we are giddy to get started on this project with SFUSD, Lotus Water and a whole bunch of thoughtful individuals dedicated to creating meaningful learning environments for kids.

Bayer Master Plan

We are very excited to work with Bayer and develop a new vision for their 46-acre biotech facility in West Berkeley. The campus has big plans to expand over the next 40 years and we are working on ways to make a collaborative and community-centered campus.

Taipei Design Awards

Our Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal has been awarded the Social Innovation Award in the Public Space Design Category by the Taipei Design Award. We are very happy to have collaborated on this project with Wong Logan Architects, BKF Engineers and HLB.

Albany Parks Master Plan

We are excited at the unanimous approval by Albany's City Council of our Parks Master Plan, it was the culmination of a shared vision for how the parks and open space can serve the community for the next ten years.

The Northern California Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded our Albany project a Merit Award. This a special project for everyone at Groundworks Office because it was an unconventional project for a landscape firm to take on.

Santa Fe ROW Merit Award

The Santa Fe Right-of-Way is a speculative project that aims to increase Berkeley's housing density. Adjacent to a residential neighborhood, an abandoned Santa Fe rail line cuts at a diagonal through the city. Together with Sidell Pakravan Architects, we proposed a way to reclaim this land and create multi-family housing and a new greenway for all.

Cal Poly Humboldt

Together with SCB Architects and Sundt Construction, we have been awarded Cal Poly Humboldt’s first project in their transition to a Cal Poly school for the California State University. The residential quad will be the largest addition of residential beds for the campus since 1970 and feature nearly 6.8 acres open space and pedestrian plazas.

Our Park Tower project topped out and finished up, this technically demanding project is a series of on-structure courtyards and outdoor plazas that serve as amenity spaces for one of the world’s most notable social media technology firms.

Albany Loop

On Wednesday we celebrated the grand opening of Albany Loop! The Loop is the City of Albany’s newest interactive public art located along the dynamic Ohlone Greenway. Groundworks was awarded the project as part of Albany’s Art in Public Places, we are supremely delighted with the outcome and the last impact this will provide along this active corridor.

Alice Chalmers Park

This past Thursday our Alice Chalmers Playground renovation project was approved by the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Commission. We are delighted to be working on this project in partnership with the San Francisco Parks Alliance.
