Kazumitsu Kajihara

Landscape Designer

Kaji, originally from Osaka, Japan, is a skilled landscape designer and aesthetic pruner whose philosophy revolves around the simple yet profound motto: "eat and sleep well."

His journey in landscape architecture is marked by a blend of rigorous academic training and hands-on experience in the plant world. He earned his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, building on a previous Master’s degree in Ecosystem Management from Japan. This diverse educational background underpins his nuanced understanding of both natural ecosystems and landscape design principles. Kaji’s professional experience is as rich as his academic credentials.

His first role in the plant world involved working with a plant nursery and wholesale company, where he managed landscape plant import/export and flower branch procurement from wild forests. This experience provided him with deep insights into plant diversity and logistics. Additionally, Kaji trained as a Japanese gardener under a respected gardening master, learning the art of "Garden maintenance" and the concept of "Aging beauty." This training instilled in him a philosophy that values the evolving beauty of gardens over time, influencing his design approach and commitment to creating landscapes that mature gracefully. Together, these experiences shape Kaji’s unique approach to landscape design, blending practical knowledge with a deep appreciation for the aesthetic and temporal qualities of gardens.
